Community Cares will connect you to what you need.
How We Can Help
We help you navigate the steps to get you to safety and security. We’ll have a conversation with you and offer ways to help that you may not have even thought about.
The community cupboard provides a variety of basic necessities to those who have exhausted other avenues. This includes personal care items, baby needs, essential household items, and work-appropriate and seasonal clothing.
If we don’t have what you need, we’ll figure out how to help you find it.
To access help, call the outreach phone number at 902-317-5919 or simply drop by at 55 King St in Sydney Mines, Mon-Fri, 8:30-4:30.
OK, but what exactly can we do for you? Well, basically whatever you need; but below are common ways we can help:
Other items you might need that we can help you with include furniture, appliances, connections with mental health professionals, transportation to appointments, and even internet access or phone usage.
But mostly, CCYO is here to connect you with what you need, and help you navigate through it all.
There is no judgment at CCYO. We’re not just helping – we’re happy to do so. We’re going to help you and we’ll do it with full hearts, because you matter.
Recent Outreach Examples
A man with some mental health issues wanted out of a bad living situation. We found an apartment that was due to be renovated, and negotiated with the landlord to postpone construction and rent it as-is. We helped navigate hooking up power, budgeting, finding cleaning supplies, dishes, and a toaster, and helped with his groceries. With a secure home, he now feels comfortable doing his own navigating.
A young mother suddenly moved out of an unhealthy living space, and found herself with nothing. We provided clothing for her and her children and arranged to get the family a Christmas tree. We fundraised the money to buy her three beds, and we’re now looking at a way to find her safe new tires to replace the bald ones on her car. We’re not sure how yet, but we’ll make it work!
A man in his early 20s was housed but was sleeping on a box spring – he needed a mattress. We contacted the Salvation Army and found one to fit his needs, coordinated with his community services case worker to cover a chunk of the cost, provided funds to cover the rest, and arranged pickup and delivery to the apartment. With an appropriate place to sleep, he’s now able to attend classes.
